The Origin

There are places that remain in you long after you have left them. These places stay with you, not just as memories, but as ways you learn to see the world. I spent my childhood in Zimbabwe, among old earth, vast distances, and living things that belonged beneath an endless sky. This fortunate early exposure to an abundance of natural designs shaped my understanding of form, pattern, and silhouette long before I knew what design was.

The bush teaches one to observe. From a drifting mote in dappled light, to the perfectly aligned barbules of a guinea fowl feather, nothing in nature exists without reason, and nothing of innate natural beauty exists apart from function. Those early years shaped the way I came to understand movement and form.

But life changed quickly. In the early 2000s political upheaval came for Zimbabwe and my family was caught in the wake.  I was forcibly removed from my childhood home with almost no warning. I arrived in America as a displaced teen carrying fragments of one world into a completely new one. Displacement has a way of clarifying what belongs to you. That devastating rupture taught me a beautiful truth: no matter how far we wander, what we choose to keep close is ours forever. Our culture, our memories, and the way we have learned to see the world travel with us.

With that spirit, I spent much of my time exploring the world: as a vagabond, a financier, and even as a safari guide back in the bush. I followed old trails through remote landscapes and along the way learned to pay close attention to the details of this incredible world. In Milan, this practice evolved and I began translating the language of the natural world into the world of art and fashion.

IVHU was born from this understanding. Named after the Shona word for soil, earth, and land, this fashion brand is grounded in the belief that one should move through the world without becoming untethered from it. Conceived in my now home in California and crafted in Veneto Italy, IVHU draws from nature, travel, and culture. IVHU is designed for the sapient traveler who views a journey not as an escape, but as an ongoing conversation with the world, for collectors versed in the languages of art, nature and geography, and for those who  refuse to compromise on the sensory integrity of what touches their skin.

Awareness is the ultimate luxury, a sophistication born out of the time and knowledge required to truly see the world around us.  This is a craft performed over a lifetime, not to be consumed in a single instance. If you are here, you intuitively grasp that to wear IVHU is to carry a piece of the earth’s living history with you, wherever you land next.

Welcome to the diaspora.
